The live donor champion program is an entirely new initiative created by the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center. In effort to help our patients and increase live donation rates, we help patients and their loved ones overcome the barriers associated with identifying a live donor. Each wait-listed patient has identified one other person (either a family member, friend or sometimes even a stranger) to be their Live Donor Champion. In providing the patient and their champion with educational materials, answers to commonly asked questions and other resources, our hope is to make the champion comfortable with initiating conversations and spreading awareness about renal failure and live donation.
